Call for entries opens online Monday, February 4, 2013
The deadline for entries is Friday March 15, 2013 at 6 p.m. All entries must be received before this deadline.
Entries will not be accepted after 6 p.m. Friday March 15, 2013.
WMAF will not make exceptions for courier or postal delays.
Written Categories You must upload a PDF of every written entry. There is no need to conceal the author's name. No tearsheets are required, but you must deliver your master and entry forms to the WMA office, along with payment or proof of PAYPAL payment.
Visual Categories Tearsheets are no longer accepted for any of the visual categories. You MUST upload a low-to-mid resolution PDF or JPG of the entry during the online submission process. You must deliver your master and entry forms to the WMA office, along with payment or proof of PAYPAL payment.
Magazine of the Year (New, Trade, Provincial and Online) Submitters of Best New, Best Trade and Best Provincial print magazines are asked to send four sets of three consecutive issues of their magazines, all dated in 2012, with an entry form and cover letter that describes the aims and objectives of the publication, including its readership and circulation, attached to each set. Best Online Magazine entries must enter a URL that remains active throughout the judging process (March 15 - May 15, 2013). For Best New Magazine category, the inaugural issue of the publication must have been on or after January 2011, as the WMAF will allow New Magazines to go back two years, instead of one, in order to permit three consecutive issues to be submitted. A publication can only enter the New Magazine category once. Publication entries that are primarily advertorial will be ruled inadmissible for Magazine of the Year categories (defined as publications produced for the purpose of promoting the interest of the principal business of the publisher, or where the principal business is other than magazine publishing).
Who May Submit
Magazine publishers, editors, art directors and freelance contributors are all eligible to submit.
Editors and art directors should consult with freelancers to avoid duplication.
Entry Fee
The fee for each entry is $65 (plus HST) if the entry appeared in a magazine with a circulation of
20,000 or less; $85 (plus HST) if the entry appeared in a magazine with a circulation of more than 20,000.
Send one cheque or money order (or pay by PAYPAL) for the total number of entries submitted (made
payable to the Western Magazine Awards Foundation) with your entries. Entry fees are
non-refundable.
